Kent R. Smith, Superintendent
Superintendent Smith is an accomplished administrator with more than 35 years in education. He began his career as an elementary and special education teacher at Norristown School District, where he taught learning support classes, third to ninth grades. He also coached the swimming and diving team.
After leaving Norristown School District, Superintendent Smith spent the next 23 years in administration at both Lakeview and Conneaut School Districts. There he served as a Special Education Supervisor, Director of Curriculum, Director of Federal Programs and as Acting Assistant Superintendent. He has a track record of student success in performance on Pennsylvania System of School Assessments (PSSA) testing, and meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) during his tenure at Conneaut School District.
During his first 5 years at Susquenita he has fostered a team approach resulting in the improvement of test scores across the District. Additionally, Susquenita High School was recognized in 2015 with the Apple Distinguished Program Award. This is significant given the District’s rapid growth and success in technology utilization over the course of the past 5 years. He attributes this success to the fantastic staff he has the privilege of working with at Susquenita. Teamwork is key!
Superintendent Smith was born and raised in Shillington, a suburb of Reading, and resides in Marysville, with Dawn, his wife of over thirty years. Together, they have three children: Tara, a math teacher in the Susquenita School District, Kyle, a lawyer in Pittsburgh, and Evan, who is in his final year at the Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry in Philadelphia.
In his spare time, Superintendent Smith likes to golf, swim, spend time with family and work on home improvement projects.
