The West Side Singers have been an essential part of the music department at Susquenita since 1977.
The group consists of singers in grades 9-12, and is by audition-only. Members are hand-selected by the director. Once admitted into the ensemble, the student will request both Festival Chorus and West Side Singers on their course load.
West Side Singers rehearse every other day during the school day (opposite of Festival Chorus) and once a week in the evening. This group performs music of high difficulty to a high degree of excellence. Membership in this class involves a lot out of school time in rehearsal, individual practice, and numerous performances throughout the entire year. West Side Singers will be required to also sing in the Festival Chorus on the opposite rotation day.
WSS goes on an annual adjudication trip every year to compete against other distinguished high school choirs in the United States. Previous locations include Boston, Washington DC, New York City, Disney, and Carribean Cruises, among others.
At the end of each school year, students will repeat the process above and re-audition for the ensemble.
